American Voices Series Set For March 12

Ozarka College – Melbourne will host The American Voices Series, Hispanic/Latin American Voices, on Wednesday, March 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the John E. Miller Education Complex Lecture Hall.“One of the goals of the American Voices Series is for Ozarka students and community members to obtain a clearer and more honest appreciation of whom Hispanic/Latin American citizens and immigrants are. Another is to learn their historic and contemporary origins; what are their hopes, aspirations, dreams and fears,” said Rodney Williams, history instructor at Ozarka College – Mountain View. “This event will help all to understand more fully the issues that face Hispanic/Latin American citizens and us in our shared democracy; to learn about them, to learn from them, to learn with them.” Ian Beard of the Old State House Museum in Little Rock and Thomas Fernandez of Arkansas State University – Beebe will be special guests. Beard will present on the topic of the Mexican-American War and Fernandez will present on Hispanic/Latin American art/artists. The event will also include panelists, Dr. Justin Castro, Luis Govas, Gina Gomez and Juan Ramirez. All are invited to attend, but a reservation is requested.
