Trustees of Ozarka College, with locations in Ash Flat, Mammoth Spring, Melbourne and Mountain View, voted recently to opt out of legislation that would allow college faculty and staff with permits to carry concealed handguns on campus.
The Ozarka College Board of Trustees opted out of the provisions of Act 226, which the Arkansas General Assembly enacted this spring and goes into effect in August.
As of June 24, 15 boards of the state’s public institutions of higher education, including the Arkansas State University and University of Arkansas systems, have voted to opt out of Act 226. Under the law, institutions must vote annually on whether to opt out of provisions of the law.
