Rocky Hay of Franklin, Arkansas completed his first solo flight at the Melbourne Municipal Airport on April 6, 2018. Rocky makes the sixteenth Ozarka College student to complete the solo flight. His career goals are to earn an Associate of Science degree in Aviation - Professional Pilot and become a corporate pilot, flying private business aircraft."Airplanes have fascinated me my whole life and I have dreamed of becoming a pilot since I as a kid, " said Hay. When asked about his solo flight, Hay said, "It was one of the most exciting moments of my life. " Tim Ambrose, Flight Instructor at Ozarka College, said, "Rocky did well on his solo flight; his passion for aviation will take him far! "Prior to taking a solo flight, students are required to receive and log flight training for maneuvers and procedures ranging from proper flight preparation procedures to emergency procedures and equipment malfunctions. Additionally, they have to pass an aeronautical knowledge test. Upon completing solo flights, students begin flying to larger airports with an instructor.
