On February 28, 2017, Ozarka College Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) students assisted with the Arkansas Farm to You exhibit, hosted by the University of Arkansas (Division of Agriculture) Cooperative Extension Service. This event was held at Izard County Consolidated Elementary in Violet Hill, Arkansas.Prior to touring the exhibit, ICC elementary students received multiple lessons in their classrooms utilizing the Serving Up MyPlate Curriculum from USDA. "Arkansas Farm to You is an interactive, walk-through display geared toward kindergarten through 6th grade students, " said Karla Dement, county extension agent. "The exhibit features ten stations that take the students from the farm, to the table and through the body. "LPN students spoke to students about the importance of keeping teeth clean by brushing and flossing every day, how healthy foods are digested into nutrients, and how to listen to the stomach to eat just the right amount of food to be healthy. They also explained how food and physical activity help make students healthy and strong, and they taught the students how to protect their skin with the use of sunscreen and frequent hand washing.Susan Thielemier, Ozarka College nursing instructor commented, "This was our third time to help with the Farm to You exhibit and each year, it proves to be a valuable experience for the College's LPN students. Being able to teach others not only the importance of getting the right nutrients, but also how to care for the body, is great practice for their future careers. "
