Ozarka College has selected Zachery Thielman of Violet Hill, Arkansas as recipient of the Academic All-Star scholarship program. Thielman, who plans to graduate from Ozarka in December, is majoring in nursing."After completion of the registered nursing program, my plans include attending Lyon College in hopes of earning a bachelors degree in biology, " said Thielman. "Afterwards, I will be applying for medical school. "
The purpose of this program is to recognize the scholarly and service achievements of Arkansas' two-year college students. Academic All-Stars will be recognized at the ACC Awards Brunch on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Each All-Star will receive a $500 scholarship for his/her final semester to attend the nominating college, paid for by the nominating college. All-Star recipients have also traditionally received a full scholarship from the Arkansas college or university of their choice to complete their four year degree.
To apply to be an Academic All-Star, Thielman was required to meet eligibility requirements such as being an Arkansas resident, enrolled in a public two-year college, expected to continue enrollment through at least Fall 2016, have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher. Thielman has met or exceeded all of those. Applicants were also required to demonstrate involvement in campus and/or community activities. Thielman is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, has received the academic excellence scholarship from 2014 to present, and has participated in health fairs with his fellow LPN classmates while teaching participants about the dangers and spreading of microorganisms, along the importance of hand washing.
In his application, Thielman shared, "The most unforgettable experiences I've had at Ozarka College were through the LPN and RN programs. " He explained how all of the experiences have made him "relish the joy " that caring for people is capable of making him feel.
