Ozarka College has received a $50,000 donation from the late Gwenn A. Lea of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. Ms. Lea passed away on March 1, 2015 and left funds for scholarship purposes.Ms. Lea, an Izard county native, was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Horseshoe Bend. As a child, her father was the County Judge and her family ran a general store on Larkin Road. Ms. Lea shared stories with close friends about playing with her dolls in the Old Philadelphia Church, while pretending to preach to them.Later in life, Ms. Lea moved to Texas for several years prior to returning home to Izard County. She spent her working years as a real estate broker and she raised cattle. Lea was always a strong believer in education and felt that everyone should earn as high of a degree as possible. She was a past board member of the Bank of Melbourne and an original Trustee on the Ozarka College Board of Trustees.Ozarka College President, Dr. Richard Dawe said, "We are grateful for Ms. Lea's generosity and commitment to our region and higher education.
