In addition to funds donated for capital campaigns at the Ozarka College – Mountain View campus, the newest endowment brings SCCRC’s total contribution to $80,000. This semester, five SCCRC scholarships were awarded thanks to earlier endowments. Scholarships are awarded once a $10,000 endowment goal is met. “The Stone County Community Resource Council and their dedicated Board are such strong supporters of higher education, the students of Ozarka, and of their community,” said Ozarka College President Dr. Richard Dawe. “We continue to be amazed by their support of the students at our Mountain View campus. Their level of commitment is a rare example for us all to seek ways to do more for our students, which ultimately has a powerful impact on the economic health of our communities.” Each scholarship is awarded through the Ozarka College Foundation and is worth $250 per semester for a total of $500 per year. With the newest endowment, six students who reside in Stone County will have an opportunity to pursue their higher education goals. “Students continuing their education is vital to this community and is key for economic development in Stone County,” said Jim Qualls, SCCRC member. “By supporting students through scholarships, we feel we are encouraging students to learn and grow and become better equipped for the workforce.” This semester’s recipients include Margo DelReal, Associate of Arts in Science Technology; Kara McBroom, Associate of Arts in Teaching; Mark Randall Gatewood, Jr., Licensed Practical Nursing; Sherry Prichard, Associate of Arts in Science in Health Information Technology; Colton Rose, Associate of Arts in General Education. “By endowing six $10,000 scholarships since May of 2007, the SCCRC Board has shown in a very visible way that they believe education is the key to a better life,” said Ozarka College – Mountain View Director Gin Brown. “Education opens the door to jobs and greater stability in a person’s life. The Board and all the other volunteers are a dedicated group of people and the students at Ozarka College Mountain View are very fortunate to have their support.” The Stone County Community Resource Council is a non-profit organization that offers support to the citizens of Stone County, Ark.
